Entrance of Bunk Barners and TrainersWe have been running Bushey Heath Farm since June 2004. Our aim is to develop a thriving smallholder business with a diversity of activities from workshop provision to accommodation for visitors, all with sustainability at the core of the business.

We offer high quality and affordable accommodation in our static caravan, bunk barns, bothys and on our campsite for visitors.  We aim to develop the site in an environmentally sensitive way by including as many sustainable ideas and technologies as we find feasible.  Presently we encourage recycling throughout the site, collect rainwater for WC flushing and have fitted a Ground Source Heat Pump to provide all the heating and hot water to the bunk barns.  All our electrical power requirements are sourced from the Proven 6kw turbine that has been up and running since March 2007. Throughout the construction and renovation work recycled building materials and high levels of insulation have been used where possible.Peak district meeting place

We presently have a  range of animals, including Suffolk and Swale ewes, that lamb every spring, a mixed lot of hens that lay well and chicks as they arrive , and finally our three male Alpacas from Chile that live in the back fields.  In the future we plan to hold art and craft catered workshops and increase the numbers and diversity of animals on the farm. Local schools use us as a centre to run various activities, from Duke of Edinburgh award groups to school Year 9 activities weeks.

We offer day visits to groups looking to experience our business and explore sustainable ideas. Past groups have included Local Authority Planning Officers, Council groups, outdoor centre leaders, National Park officers, local farmers and other small business groups. We can offer short 45-60 minute guided talks and longer tour/talks including refreshments. Mail or call us to discuss whether a visit would help your orginisation towards sustainabilty ideas and issues.

Bushey Heath Farm has received recognition for the sustainable projects undertaken. Awards and grants have been received from the Peak District Sustainable Development Fund, Low Carbon Buildings Trust and Ethical Tourism Awards.
